This image is of an original watercolor which was entered in one of Reading Art Association's Fall Exhibit and Sale. This is Memorial Park in Methuen, MA. Nearby stood the George Washington Monument by sculptor Thomas Ball commissioned by the eccentric Edward Francis Searles (built one castle here and another up the street in Salem, NH), who as a young man in the 1800s moved to NYC to be an antique dealer designer. He later married the very rich much older widow Mary Frances Sherwood Hopkins (of railroad fame). The George Washington statue was sold and now stands in Forest Lawn Cemetery in CA. How Searles turns in his grave! Eventually he built for himself both Methuen's and Salem NH's heavily walled castles named for his family name. Seen in background is the First Congregational Church which boasts a fine expansive stain glass window by John LaFarge. It was rebuilt in the 19th century, still with a cornerstone dated 1689. Legal: This Image design text content & concept owned by Mimi Dee. Please collect with confidence after reviewing the dozens of Trocadero verified testimonials, then view all extreme close up images for more info, as all Qs will be answered here in lieu of email reply.
Ms. Dee has exhibited and sold at the Reading Art Association Shows, other very well established area art association shows and sold her paintings and other artwork in her own previously open Methuen studio store gallery. |
